Cookstove carbon offset projects

Project type

Cookstove

Location

Tanzania

Verification validation body

Gold Standard

About the project

More than 96% of the approximately 60 million people in Tanzania rely on biomass – mostly firewood and charcoal- as their primary fuel for cooking. Most rural households use the three stone fireplaces to cook their meals, whereas low quality charcoal cookstoves are used in urban and peri-urban households.

The project aims at contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions derived using fossil fuel for cooking and deforestation through the promotion of alternative cooking among rural households in Tanzania.

The project developer has partnered with a local manufacturer, legally registered in Tanzania, which has experience in the production of cookstoves to provide the cookstoves for the project.

Community support

Becoming an investor in an improved cookstove project has a direct impact on families and communities across Tanzania. Regular updates are shared with all project investors on the progress of the projects and the impacts they’re having on the lives of those living in the communities which can be communicated with internal and external stakeholders.

Impact beyond carbon credits

This project caters to multiple SDGs including improving lives of local communities, reducing pollution and creating jobs.
