Safe water access project

Project type

Safe Water

Location

Lake Victoria, Kenya

Verification validation body

Gold Standard

About the project

In rural Kenya, only 51.8% of the total population has basic services of drinking water in 2020 and none has safely managed drinking water services. 12.5% of the population relies on unimproved sources while 24.1% are drinking water directly from a river, dam, lake, pond, stream, canal or irrigation canal.

In the villages on Lake Victoria in Siaya County, 80% of the communities do not have access to water because of lack of water infrastructure.

The project developer has partnered with a certified local EPC contractor for the construction of the project using new system design and identification of suitable sites for the water kiosks with smart meters to track consumption.

Social impact

The objective of the project is to improve the living conditions of approximately 45,000 people living in the West and East Yimbo districts by providing sufficient, affordable and clean drinking water to the communities.

Impact beyond carbon credits

This project caters to multiple SDGs including improving lives of local communities, reducing pollution and creating jobs.
