About the project
The proposal focuses on addressing the impact of extreme weather and climate events on agricultural production through agroforestry practices in India. The project targets arid and low productivity lands in six states, covering 5000 hectares initially. Agroforestry involves integrating trees into agricultural landscapes, offering multiple benefits such as improved soil fertility, increased crop yields, and biodiversity conservation. The project's methodology includes growing agricultural crops for the first four years, followed by a transition to forest plants to improve soil fertility and promote climate change mitigation.
The project's contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are highlighted, including poverty reduction, food security, improved health and well-being, gender equality, clean water, responsible consumption, climate action, and biodiversity conservation.
